I was looking back at my portfolio earlier today – it stretches back close to two decades. I started with family or social photography and some of the kids I photographed at 12 or 14 are now parents themselves. Man; when did I get so old!! The corporate photography and business head shots began a little later on. I wanted my weekends back, so ‘pivoted’ the business towards corporate headshot and executive portraits for small to medium sized businesses.

Each one of the shots above is a real, business person and every shot is created in the camera then refined in the computer. No AI. Now; clearly, the earlier shots wouldn’t have been AI generated anyway, but anything after 2022 would have that as an option which is why lots of corporates turned to generating images of their executives, chief officers and board directors immaterial of whether the resulting images looked like the real life person in post. Does it matter if the image of the CEO doesn’t match reality? Will customers stop buying if the images on the website of your sales team are AI generated avatars?

Maybe; maybe not. What I can say though is this. AI images of people are fictitious. They are a lie. And if your company is prepared to lie to prospects, customers and investors about their corporate headshots, what else are you lying about? How trustworthy is your operation when even a basic part of your corporate culture is a deception?

Corporate headshot photography from a real live photographer is relatively low cost. Some companies use photographers as part of their company away days or training days. Head shot photography then ensures images the company’s staff – from board members down to the receptionists – are up to date, relevant and, most importantly, real photographs.
